Frances Cherry - Workshops

Writing Workshops

I have been running creative writing courses at various educational institutions for many years. Now that the National Government has slashed the funding for Adult Community Education many of the schools are unable to continue. Luckily I will still be running courses on memoir writing at Onslow and Wellington High School in 2010. Other workshops on the novel for either children or adults will be run privately.

In 2010 I will be running full day memoir writing workshops on monthly Saturdays throughout the year at Onslow and Wellington Highschool. For further information contact:

Amanda Dixson at Onslow: amanda.dixson@onslow.school.nz

Or Robyn Hambleton at Wellington High school: robyn.hambleton@whs.school.nz

I will also be running private full day Sunday monthly workshops on the novel (children or adult) memoir or travel. Limit eight people. This course will cost you $300 for ten months. Contact me for further information.

At the beginning of each workshop we have a catch-up about what everyone has been doing in the month in between. This is not about writing but a relaxing and friendly way to get us into the day. As well as your main work you are expected to write a fun essay on a subject I have given you. I do not judge this, it is just a good writing exercise. You are also asked to write a poem on whatever subject I give you – you do not have to be a poet.

You are expected to write at home and bring work back to the group for feedback. Expect encouraging honesty and great camaraderie.

If you are serious about writing you have to read! Each month you are expected to do a book review. You don’t have to write it down, you can just tell us.

Please bring lunch and your own mug for coffee or tea.
